Cycle Club Route
9 mile cycle route starting and finishing in Horsmonden
Several amateur cycle clubs come to Horsmonden to race. They use the sports ground and pavilion for parking and a headquarters for the day.
The club route takes in some great countryside, weavers houses, river views and oast houses.
It’s a loop so you can start anywhere on the route, but we doing it exactly the same as the Cycle Clubs.
Cycle Steps
Start at the Horsmonden Sports Ground and proceed South towards the village along Maidstone Road.
Pass the Green and turn left at the crossroads.
Follow Goudhurst Road passing the Old Station on the left and Old Station Oasts on the right.
Keep going passing weavers cottages, Capel Cross and slightly uphill passing Broadford on your right and one of Capel Manor’s gatehouses on your left.
Keep going, you will pass a right turn to the Church before eventually crossing the River Teise and leaving the Parish.
First climb, downhill and main climb
Ballards Hill – you won’t miss it! Climb up to a T junction and turn left toward Curtisden Green.
Downhill section past Monk’s Farm through a double bend.
Climb up Winchett Hill. Reach the top with a turning to Curtisden Green on your right.
Downhill and flat section
Follow the bend to the left and enjoy a fast downhill section.
Pass Tanner Hill Touring and Camping Park on your left.
Nice flat section passing Love’s Farm before reaching a left turn into Sheephurst Lane at Marden Beech.
Follow Sheephurst Lane passing Beech Farm and on to Old Mill Bridge where you cross the Lesser Teise.
Next you will pass Great Sheephurst Farm and Little Cheveney Farm followed by a flat section to Claygate.
Take a left at the T junction and pass the White Hart public house.
Cross Gaffords Bridge over the River Teise and enter the Parish again.
Long straight section passing Bassett’s Farm on the right and Bennetts Farm on the right passing Churn Lane on the right.
Rams Hill and climb back into the village
Onwards past Castlemaine on the left and Rams Hill for Mowers on your right before passing Yew Tree Green Road on your right.
Pass through Rams Hill passing Hayman’s Hill on your left and Rams Hill House on your right.
Climb up past Westenhanger on your left and eventually the Roman Catholic Church on your right and past Church Meadow.
Finallly finishing past the Tennis Club and back at the Sports Ground.

Timings: 40 minutes on a racer or about an hour and half for a leisurely cycle ride.
