Aveling & Porter, 9170, KN 9352, 6/1920, Shamrock
On June 25th 1920 Aveling & Porter from Rochester, Kent produced engine works no 9170, registration KN 9352, type T, 7-ton engine with an Hp4, known as Shamrock.
The engine was supplied new to Kent County Council as No 4 and used for hauling road making materials from their Maidstone depots at Harrietsham and Charing.
During the early 1930’s the engine was sold to the well-known engine dealer C W Lambert of Horsmonden, Kent.
The engine was sold on to G Jarvis of Bethersden, Jenkins of Bethersden and to Don Eastwood of Horsmonden who carried on the steam operations following the death of Chris Lambert in 1955.
Shamrock was sold on for further work to CW Walker of Meopham, Kent before being acquired by Francis Grover of Hyde Heath, Amersham, Bucks in the late 1950’s.
Shamrock was purchased by its present owner Jim Stanley, Brentwood, Essex from Arthur Gover in 2011.
It is recorded that sometime in its later life the engine narrowly escaped the scrapman however other than the above information recorded history including working days photographs have yet to come to light?
