Louis Reece
Fruit importers and packers
Louis Reece were a major employer in Horsmonden between the early 1960s to the mid 80s.
The gallery shows Morley Drive; former site of Louis Reece (earlier Margetsons) fruit importer, wholesaler and packer.
Louis Reece was an important employer to residents of Horsmonden and and many of the surrounding village’s from 1950s to 1987 when fruit importing and packaging operations ceased.
A smart fleet of Lorries was based here and would travel to and from Docks and Markets all over the country with imported and locally grown fruit. Frequent destinations would include the Port of London docks and the old Covent Garden and Spitalfields markets.
Fruit and produce packed here was on sale in all Marks and Spencer stores back in the day as well as many large supermarkets.
Most of the packhouse photos were taken early to mid 1960’s and the majority of the ladies shown lived locally.
