The Plant Hunters
Wednesday 16th November 2016 at 2.30 p.m.
Goudhurst Parish Hall, Goudhurst.
By Dr Mick Lynn
The vast majority of our garden plants are introduced from abroad. This is the story of the men (and one woman) who discovered and brought back a wealth of exotic new plants. Travel with Marco Polo, Captain Cook, David Douglas, and many others to all parts of the globe.
Journeying through remote and beautiful lands, often in great peril, they collected the plants that shaped western garden design and have now become garden standards such as lilies, orchids, rhododendrons and many varieties of fir and conifers.
This talk will be of interest to anyone with an interest in gardening, botany, or history.
Non U3A Members welcome – entry fee is £2.50 payable on the door
